Bhubaneswar, 20th Oct 2016: Regional Conference on “Doubling Farmers’ Income” was conducted by NABARD Odisha Regional office on Thursday here.

Dr K. C. Panigrahi, Chief General Manager, NABARD extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries & participants, and during his welcome address he emphasized on thinking beyond food security and giving back to our farmers a sense of income security. Quoting Hon’ble Prime Minister’s suggested seven-point strategy to double farm incomesby 2022,he indicated that doubling of farmer’s income implies income of the farmer and not only incomefrom farming.He highlighted the issues faced by the farming community,especially the Small and Marginal farmers and mentioned the various means by which the goal could be achieved.

Chief Guest, Shri Ashok Dalwai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and FW, GoI congratulated NABARD on the occasion and appreciated it for its continuous support and active involvement in developing the rural sector. He laid emphasis on focusing on input management, supply chain management.

He also opined that by shifting focus from production to income in agriculture and liberalization of the sector could lead to doubling of farmers’ income. He expressed his concern over decline in Gross Capital Formation in Agriculture and spoke on leveraging private investment as an option. Concentrating on non-cost inputs such as capacity building, transfer of technologies, use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) etc. could help us achieve the goal by 2022.
