Bhubaneswar, 7/01/15: Leading Industry-apex body Confederation of Indian Industry [CII] in collaboration with Corporate Monitor has organized a one day seminar on “Energy Efficient Technologies in Steel & Aluminum Making- Research & Applications” here on Wednesday.

\r\n

In his inaugural speech Chairman CII Odisha & CMD NALCO Ansuman Das stressed the importance and difficulties in energy conservation, and urged all delegates  to  make conscious and serious effort in this direction.

\r\n

“A slew of reforms are required in the energy sector to meet the crisis of power shortage, a key input in steel and alumina making,” Sushmita Dasgupta, ERU, JPC, Ministry of Steel, Government of India said addressing to the delegates.

\r\n

Speaking on the subject, Arun Kumar Misra, Vice President, TATA Steel, Gopalpur Project said, “the company is going to start a ferro-chrome plant at Goplapur which needs a lot of energy to run. “Over Rs 50,000 crores would be invested in the project and it will create direct and indirect employment to 10,000 people,” Sri Misra added.

“India could save around 10,000 MW of energy by resorting to LED bulbs as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has elicited earlier,” said V Subhramanium, Director, Production, NALCO on the occasion.

\r\n

Dr Omkar Nath Mohanty, Director- Technology, RSB Metaltech cited the technological interventions needed for conservation of energy in steel and alumina making.

\r\n

Other key speakers participated in the discussion include, Rato Stadler, Head of Global products and Technology from ABB Switzerland limited, including senior dignitaries from various PSUs & Ministry of Steel.

\r\n

The technical sessions of the seminar housed documented presentations from various steel and aluminum manufacturing companies that focused on whole some aspects related to updating of technologies, energy conservation and pollution control.
