Bhubaneswar, 16 July 2015: AIIMS, Bhubaneswar should initiate better tertiary care level health facility, like Organ Transplant facility and Comprehensive Alternate Health Care facility, Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati said at the third foundation day of All India Institute of Medical Sciences [AIIMS] Bhubaneswar, held on Wednesday here.

Pati at the same time enquired about rain water harvest system at the institute and assured to extend whatever help and support on behalf of state Govt is required. He declared that about 13 acres of land has already been identified for development of Institute of Public Health under AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.

\r\n

Prof. K Srinath Reddy – President, Public Health Foundation of India, who is also a member of Governing Body, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar acknowledged the fact that AIIMS, Bhubaneswar is ahead of five other second generation AIIMS and hoped that with time it will surpass the glory of original 1st generation AIIMS.

Dean, AIIMS, Prof. Bhatia delivered welcome address followed by Director, Prof. A.K.Mahapatra, who described what AIIMS has achieved during last three years. He thanked faculty, officer and staff members for these achievements.

A blood donation camp and tree plantation programme was also held on the occasion.

\r\n

In the Scientific Session, Prof. Srinath Reddy presented “Responding to India’s Public Health Challenges” where he said that the health expenditure in India is less than that of Srilanka and China, it has to be increased, public have to be made aware of many life style related diseases like stroke, diabetes and cancer. He also emphasized the fact that all essential medicines should be made available free of cost to general public at large.

Swami Sadanada saraswati delivered a talk on “Holistic Approach towards Life & Work”. He advised everybody that all need money, fame and glory but the same should not be at the cost of self satisfaction and respect. He quoted many examples from social and real life and stressed upon the fact that human touch is the essential element in all professional field.

\r\n

At the end Prof. Bidyut Kumar Das delivered a talk on “Hygine Hypothesis”, where he clearly showed that we have to live in harmony with nature otherwise the immune system shall not work as effectively as it is supposed to. He gave mainly two examples, where because of comfort we are not going out and exposing ourselves to sun. Rather there are 100s of products available in the market to make you fair. As a result all of us are developing Vit. D Deficiency and our bone density becoming less. Second these days we are scared of any small infection which are good for our immune system and depending on antibiotics randomly which is again killing our immune system. Therefore, he advised children should be allowed to go out, play under sun, acquire little infection from surrounding to make and keep their immune system robust.
