Cuttack, 29 Jan’15: An Interactive session on Commercial Taxes and its impact on the industries was organized by Confederation of Indian Industries [CII], Odisha Chapter at Vanijya Kar Bhavan on Thursday here.

\r\n

The interactive session was aimed at solving the existing query of the Industries and understanding the tax system in a better way. The session provided a platform for the members to discuss on the problems faced by them related to the Commercial taxes. The Session also highlighted the initiatives taken this year by the Commercial tax Department for the betterment of the Industries.

\r\n

“Issues like, Appeal amount on penalties, Entry tax, Waybill, VAT and CST, etc before the industries need to be sorted out,” Shri Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Commissioner, Commercial Tax said. He also promised that all these valid issues would be taken take care at departmental level.

\r\n

The Session started with the Welcome Address by Mr Rajdeep Mohanty, Chairman, CII North Odisha Zonal Council & Resident Director Jindal Stainless Ltd. He welcomed Shri Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Commissioner, Commercial Tax & his team, Mr Niranjan Mohanty, Convener, CII MSME Panel & MD Magnum Apparel Pvt. Ltd and the delegates present. He briefed the house about the objective of the Interactive Session. After which he requested Mr. Niranjan Mohanty to brief the theme address.

Mr Niranjan Mohanty, Convener, CII MSME Panel & MD Magnum Apparel Pvt. Ltd spoke on some of the common issues faced by industries today in regard to commercial tax. He stressed on the minor issues which led to bigger blockage in operations. Some being number of way bills allowed to a company, ITC reimbursement, entry tax, etc. He also requested Shri Manoj Ahuja to look into these issues, as they were hampering the trade opportunities of the Odisha Industries.

Mr. Deepak Kumar Singh, Head, CII Odisha State made the concluding remarks.

\r\n

The interactive session was well attended by delegates of more than 30 Companies.
