Bhubaneswar,16th April 2015: For the first time in Odisha, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has successfully conducted two cochlear implant programs here on Thursday.

\r\n

Dr C Preetam, ENT Surgeon operated on two deaf children for profound hearing loss, one aged 15 months and the other of 29 months.

\r\n

The ADIP scheme under Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India also got underway in collaboration with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the hearing handicapped, regional centre, Bhubaneswar (Janla).

\r\n

“For the first time in Odisha, such  cochlear implant program has been done by AIIMS Bhbaneswar. The treatment is very costly ranging between Rs 5-9 lakhs. However, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India has the provision to provide necessary support to the financially challenged, who cann’t afford to spend such a high amount for the program,” Dr A K Mahapatra, Director AIIMS said to press persons.
