Bhubaneswar : Odisha Chief Secretary on Thursday directed the state Agriculture department to prepare an action pan on a full-proof Khariff strategy in the coming season, where pre-treatment of seeds, line showing, Integrated Manure Management and Integrated Paste Management are to be included within it. He also asked the concerned department to cover the flood prone areas with flood resistant varieties like swarna- sub and drought prone up lands with high tolerant verities of paddy seeds besides, strengthening and enhance the support for post-harvest management and marketing. Pati also asked to constitute a State Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Agriculture for finalization of action plan and regular review of the progress.

Pati was attending a State Level Coordination Committee Meeting on Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India ( BGERI) in secretariat conference hall on Thursday.

The BGERI ttat was started in Odisha since 2011-12, is now being implemented in 16 districts namely Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Kandhamal, Puri, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, Saharanpur. Financial outlay of Rs 199.30 crore was made in 2013-14 for the programmes like crop demonstration, asset building like supply of pump sets, transplanter, functioning of LI points, construction of community threshing floor, development of  firm-cum-fish pond and supply  of paddy seed cleaner-cum-grader. Achievement in these areas have been 100%.

No allocation for 2015-16 has been received so far. However, a tentative estimate of around Rs 180 crore has been prepared for the current fiscal year.

Director Agriculture P. Meherda, Addl. Secretary Water Resources R.S. Gopalan, Director Central Rice Research Institute Trilochan Mohapatra along with senior officers from dept of Agriculture, Seeds Corporation and Water Resources participated in the discussions.
